At 29 I was at a crossroads in my life where I was ready for a CAREER CHANGE.
I had tried other jobs through the years and then got into the health care
field, but I was BURNED OUT! So I enrolled in college for medical
records, which was a 2 year degree. But I still had doubts.
Not only is 2 years a long time for school, but it would be very expensive
and I would end up with a boring desk job. So at this time I happened
to find a little long haired dog on our county road where I lived.
It was the last big snow of the year. The little dog had been dropped
off. He was shivering and eating snow. After dark I went back
and picked him up and took him home. His fur was long, all the way
to the ground. He was severely matted, but I bathed him and cut all
the matts out. He had been starved and on the road a long time.
My mother's friend was over and noticed how I handled the dog and said
"You are so good, you should get a job with animals!"
I had always wanted to be a dog groomer but had never looked into it.
So I went to the library and the internet and found 3 schools in Ohio.
I went to visit the other 2 schools before coming to Diamond Cut.
They were 500 hr. courses and far away, which meant I would have to move
and find a new job and pay rent for at least 6 months until I finished
school. Which was a lot of HASSLE! The one shop I visited was
run down very badly, filthy dirty, and extremely unorganized. The
other was a store front dog shop. The people weren't really friendly
and the first meeting was very brief and uninformative. It was pretty much
"What are your questions?" because she was busy running the shop.
At this point I still felt unsure of what to do. I had Nancy's number
so I called to get some information about her school. I called her
and she was very EAGER to talk to me! She gave me a lot of information
about dog grooming and was very friendly and personable. After a
1/2 hour on the phone I arranged an interview. Needless to say I
was very IMPRESSED. The shop was clean and she introduced me to her
husband Doug and her son and her extended family of dogs and a crippled
blue jay, Tweet. She is very organized and professional and VERY
NICE! Everybody likes her! I felt very sure about attending
Diamond Cut. It was only a 100 hour course and I could schedule classes
around my job. Plus everybody gets personalized attention in class.
The course is simplified but complete. And you don't have to buy
expensive equipment like the other schools. At Diamond Cut you try
different types of clippers and scissors to get a feel for what you like.
And you will discover how a pair of scissors can make a world of difference!
You will learn the tricks of the trade and how to groom faster and how
to handle difficult dogs. Nancy has 30 years of experience and knows
a lot of tricks of the trade. She will follow up with you after certification
if you need a job, but most people start their own business in their homes.
I am glad I took this course and am working part-time and enjoying it.
I have no regrets! My advice is if you want to be a groomer, come
to Diamond Cut first because you will waste your time visiting the other
schools like I did!
